A photograph is a moment forever frozen in time. Over sixty moments by area shutterbugs were displayed in the Merkle and Price Galleries as part of SAAC's biannual open photography competition and exhibition "The Viewfinder" in April 2012. Hosted by SAAC every two years, "The Viewfinder" is an excellent way for professional and amateur photographers to share a small glimpse into their world.
"Good art triggers an emotion within the viewer. It causes a response, good or bad, that forces the viewer to engage the piece. It makes use of composition, color, dimension, texture, and theme to immerse the viewer within the idea and inform him of the artist's intent. Ultimately, when viewed, a superior piece of art will inform the viewer and push the limits of his experience," said professional photographer Ryan Hollis, of Memphis, Tennessee, guest judge for the competition. Cash prizes totaling $600 were awarded to Heather Canterbury, Mourning Light, Best of Show; Joanna Tilley, Father, First Place; Kelly Campbell, T2G, Second Place; DeLeath Ludwig, When Time Stands Still, Third Place; and Marty Burns, 40, Honorable Mention.
