Welcome to Virtual Summer Camp

Over the next four days, Cami and Elizabeth invite you to join in on this great experience that will improve both ballet knowledge and skill. Video lessons are broken up into a barre, an intermediate variation, and an advanced variation from 6 different ballets: Giselle, The Nutcracker, Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, Don Quixote, and Cinderella. Whether you’re hoping to expand your classical repertoire, develop new skills, or just looking for a good workout, ballet camp is for you! Dancers both young and old, even you, Mom, are encouraged to join in and learn something new.

Cami’s Barre •  Follow along as Cami leads you in barre and stretching. Be sure to get completely warmed up before attempting today’s variations.  This one is for everybody. It’s a good workout!

The Sugar Plum Fairy Variation • The Sugar Plum fairy is a classic Christmas-time character. As the leader of the land of sweets, she guides Marie (often called Clara) and the Nutcracker on an exciting adventure in her kingdom. She introduces them to dancers from all over the world, such as the Chinese Tea dancers or Spanish Hot Chocolate dancers. Join Elizabeth as she teaches you this timeless variation. This one is the intermediate variation for dancers.

The Little Swans Variation • This is a very well-known variation, which includes four dancers linked together. The steps are quick and graceful, symbolizing swans gliding across a lake. Grab a partner (if you have a family member willing to learn with you) and join Elizabeth as she teaches you this dance.  This one is the advanced variation for dancers with more ballet experience.

For our younger dancers, if you missed Ballet Camp Jr., be sure to go back and check it out!

Welcome to Ballet Camp Variations

Cami Lowrey and Elizabeth Wood’s ballet camp: Variations • Elizabeth and Cami are excited to teach students variations from 6 different ballets. Variations are solos within a ballet, often performed by leading or secondary roles. During this camp, the participants get to jump into those lead roles, right in the spotlight of their own home, and learn some of the most popular variations from timeless ballets. These variations range in skill level from intermediate to advanced. Participants will begin each day with a ballet barre to improve technique and warm up, followed by learning two variations. The chosen variations will not only be a fun challenge to learn the steps, but also a chance to improve the artistic expression within every dancer.

“Grab some ballet slippers or socks, and join us in your home for ballet camp,” said Cami.

Elizabeth, who studied and taught ballet at Theatre School of Dance in Bossier City, Louisiana, is a physical therapy assistant at South Arkansas Orthopaedics and a Pilates instructor at Healthworks Fitness Center, in addition to teaching ballet as part of SAAC’s after-school programming. College student Cami began as a student in SAAC’s ballet program as a first grader, and has been dancing ever since, becoming a soloist, choreographer, and teacher in her own right.

In addition to learning two variations each day, participants will begin with a ballet barre to improve technique and warm up. The chosen variations will not only be a fun challenge to learn the steps, but also a chance to improve the artistic expression within every dancer. Cami and Elizabeth are very excited to present the Variations ballet camp, and they invite you to join in on this great experience that will improve both ballet knowledge and skill.

“Some variations will be easier than others, but all will be challenging,” said Elizabeth. “For our younger dancers, if you missed Ballet Camp Jr., be sure to go back and check it out!”
