SAAC mades audition call for youth, grades 2-8, interested in trying out for “James and the Giant Peach, JR”, the upcoming Youth Community Theatre Production, sponsored by Kiwanis Club of El Dorado. Auditions will be held on January 11 at 2:00pm and January 13 at 4:00pm at SAAC. Production dates are April 24-25, 2020. There is no fee for participation.

Parts are available for more than 30 roles. Auditioners should fill out an audition form and review the rehearsal schedule. Children should plan to be at SAAC for auditions on Saturday, January 11 at 2:00pm. Directors will see new faces and call backs on Monday, January 13 at 4:00pm. Everyone will be taught two songs and some simple dance steps. Wear appropriate footwear and be prepared to move.

Auditions will be a chill, no pressure environment. Mrs. Cassie, the music director, will teach the song “Shake It Up” from the show and we will sing it in groups. Those wishing to be considered for a primary role will be asked to read at auditions. No preparation is required.

There are plenty of parts to go around, including featured roles for a mysterious narrator, a lonely orphan, a sweet ladybug, a smart grasshopper, a sassy spider, a nervous earthworm, a grouchy centipede, two horrible aunts, and tons of fun, wacky ensemble roles! “James and the Giant Peach, JR” allows a great deal of flexibility in casting. All kids auditioning will be considered for each role. Age and gender will not determine your role—just your talent and enthusiasm! “As a general rule I do colorblind, and mostly gender-blind casting. There are awesome roles, and everyone should be open to experience them!” said Hannah Davis, director for this production.

James and the Giant Peach is a fun, wacky, heartwarming musical based on the classic book by Roald Dahl. Davis said about the production, “I chose ‘James and the Giant Peach, JR’ because Roald Dahl is one of my all-time favorite authors. His ability to write whimsical and fun characters and situations is just amazing. The music is the show is tons of fun, and anyone who opts to join our cast is going to have a peach of a time!”

Clay Evers, one of the show’s assistant directors, said about the show, “One of my favorite parts of the movie is the insects, because their humor, quick wit and character really make the movie for me. I can’t wait for the fun we’ll all have. So please, come join us in ‘James and the Giant Peach, JR’!”

SAAC will also host a Back to School Peach Party on stage on January 4, from 2:30-3:30pm. All Arts Academy students and their parents are invited to find out more about what is happening at SAAC this Spring. This party is a great time to meet the director and her team and get answers to audition questions you may have. The show info will be availablefor anyone wanting to get a step ahead.
