Southern Arkansas University’s new president, Dr. Trey Berry, looks forward to meeting alumni, friends, stakeholders, students, and future students from El Dorado, Union County, and surrounding communities during a meet and greet in the Merkle and Price Galleries. The event is open to the public, and Berry will make brief remarks at about 5:30 p.m.
Dr. Trey Berry began his tenure as President of Southern Arkansas University on July 1, 2015. Berry has served SAU since 2012, first joining the faculty as Professor of History and Dean of the College of Liberal and Performing Arts. Prior to his appointment as President, Berry served as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.
A passionate student advocate, award-winning teacher, curious scholar and talented university and public administrator, Berry has enjoyed a rich career in Arkansas higher education.
Berry was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, but spent most of his youth and young adult life in Arkadelphia, where his mother was a university art professor and his father was a university coach and professor. Along with his work in higher education, Berry is civically engaged as a current member of the Board of Directors of the Magnolia Area Chamber of Commerce, the Rotary Club of Magnolia, and the Board of Directors of the Golden Triangle Economic Development Council.
Dr. Berry is married to Dr. Katherine Simms Berry. The couple have two children, Tanner and Berkeley.
“Not only have El Dorado and Union County played an essential role in SAU’s success over the years,” Berry said, “Kathy and I have made many good friends in El Dorado and look forward to making many more. Together we will continue to strengthen the university and the region as we grow and move forward.”
