SAAC is pleased to host exhibit for our Open Studio Artists. The exhibition “Working Collectively” will be showing in the Price Gallery and is a display of works created by members of the weekly Open Studio lead by artist Gay Bechtelheimer. There will be an artist’s reception on Saturday, January 6 from 5:30-7:00pm with the exhibition beginning January 4 and hanging through February 1.
“Working Collectively” includes works in watercolor combined with pen and ink and collage by artists Sylvia Henley, Richard Wharton, Bobbi Shepherd, Jane Feinberg, Tiffany Franks, Kathy Bowles Adcock, Allyson Menefee, Lee Scroggins, Kelly Campbell, John Ginger, and Nancy Rae Kinard.
Local artist and art teacher Gay Bechtelheimer hosts an informal painting group at SAAC in an open-studio environment where she also demonstrates new techniques for the artists as well as does critiques of their work. Some of the artists in this group have painted together at SAAC for a number of years while new artists have been welcomed to the group over the years as well. Bechtelheimer stated, “This group of artists gathers weekly to share space and fellowship as they work on projects in a variety of media. I will often present a topic or pose a question to them, and it is fascinating to see the ways they each interpret it so differently. Working collectively inspires each of us to try new techniques and stretch our own artistic practice in new ways. It really is a symbiotic relationship!” This new exhibit “Working Collectively” consists of paintings that they have worked on during these studio hours.
Join us on Saturday, January 6 for the artists reception recognizing the Open Studio Artists, along with Spencer Purinton showing in Lobby Gallery and sculptor Michael Warrick showing in the Merkle Gallery.
