SAAC is proud to host the upcoming Lobby exhibition titled “Unveiling Potential,” showcasing the work of talented local artists Rhonda Hicks and Janice Hughes. This compelling exhibition will run from October 21 to December 12, 2024, and aims to explore the profound journey of self-discovery and creativity.
An opening reception will be held on October 29, 2024, from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM, inviting the community to engage with the artwork and meet the artists. This collection captures the moments we find ourselves in—both real and imagined—delving into the contrast between change and constancy. Hicks and Hughes invite viewers to reflect on how our personal experiences shape our realities, highlighting the journey from disappointment to acceptance and growth.
“Often, we find ourselves trapped in the realm of ‘what might have been,’ but ‘Unveiling Potential’ encourages us to move beyond wishful thinking,” explain Hicks and Hughes. “Through our art, we want to inspire others to embrace the beauty found in their current circumstances.”
Rhonda Hicks shares her experience of creating this exhibition: “I love the freedom of this exhibit because it is so playful. It has been a ‘play escape.’ I have cut and torn paper, glued it, and used various trinkets, which has been a very therapeutic process. It has been one of the most delightful exhibits I’ve participated in.”
Janice Hughes adds her perspective on her artistic journey: “I think of myself as an ‘on again, off again’ artist. Rather than having a unique style or medium, I’m all over the place. I’ve decided I like it that way. I do love a good story, thought, or title and enjoy including the thought process behind my creations. My aspiration is for my art to find others and for us to fully celebrate our journey together.”
