The South Arkansas Arts Center’s Theatre Steering Committee announces auditions for the Christmas classic “Miracle on 34th Street.” Auditions for the third production of SAAC’s 51st theatrical season will be held on October 12 and 13, beginning with registration in the SAAC lobby at 6:00pm and auditions in the Callaway Theatre at 6:30pm.  The production is sponsored by Simmons Bank and opens in the Callaway Theatre on November 27.  Continuing performances are November 28, 29, and December 4-6.

The new script, based upon the 1947 Twentieth Century Fox motion picture “Miracle on 34th Street” and Valentine Davis’ original novella “Here’s Love,” retells the heartwarming story of one girl’s discovery that dreams do come true if you really believe.  This version of the story follows Doris Walker and her daughter Susan as they find that the miracle of Christmas is everywhere, if we only open our eyes to see.   Updated for new audiences, the story is told with a modern sensibility that makes it more accessible to 21st Century families.

Lynn Gunter, the production’s director, is seeking experienced and non-experienced actors of all ages to fill the roles.  The cast features principal adult roles for men, women, and one girl, who looks and acts 7-8 years old. The show also requires a very large ensemble cast of characters of men, women and children six years old through teens.

Auditioning for a part is easy, simply fill out an audition form, which are available in advance from the SAAC office or download it from SAAC’s website and be prepared to read from the script: readings will be provided. No advance preparation is necessary.  Scripts are available to check out for a 24 hour period from the SAAC office. Individuals auditioning are welcome to attend either or both nights.
