Artist Helene Lambert will host the November’s Corks and Canvas night on Thursday, November 14, 6-9pm. Corks & Canvas is an art class for non-artists who have always wanted to paint. Each class is conducted by a different art instructor, who takes the class through the step-by-step process to complete a work of art in three hours. The $40.00 prepaid non-refundable fee covers all supplies and snacks. Those taking the class should bring their favorite beverage and get ready to have a good time.
“We will draw a beautiful African Sankofa bird using pencil,” said Lambert. “Participants will add design features to their bird or use motifs provided. We will then marbleize the canvas using shaving cream and food coloring for our background. We will use acrylics to paint the picture and we will embellish the painting using the handle tip of the brush for our finished piece of work.
“This is an exciting piece of art to do. The Sankofa bird reminds us all to ‘go back and fetch it’, meaning remember our past so that we can move forward positively into the future. It makes a great conversation piece and based on the modernism of the bird, the artwork should fit any space. Each participant will be able to choose their own colors based on their decor. Though we will all paint the same subject, each artwork will be different based on the artist’s skill or technique used. Therefore, everybody’s painting should be as successful as they want it to be. I am ready to see the expressions on faces of those who thought they couldn’t paint and to hear how therapeutic the experience was. We will have a great time!”
Lambert retired after 34 years of teaching art, working with grades K-12 at the Norphlet School District as well as students at Barton Junior High in El Dorado. Following retirement, she earned the El Dorado Education Foundation Middle/Junior High School Teacher of the Year Award.
