SAAC makes an open call for entries to the 2025 Student Art Show and Competition! This is a wonderful opportunity for all area and surrounding-area students in grades K-12 to showcase their artistic talents and creativity. The entry deadline for this exhibition is set for February 17, 2025.
Judges for the 2025 Student Art Competition are local artists Dinah Van Hook and Janice Hughes, both retired art teachers and current members of SAAC’s Visual Arts Committee, who have made significant contributions to the art education community. Van Hook received her Master’s in Art Education from Louisiana Tech and spent over three decades of teaching at South Arkansas College. Hughes, a Southern Arkansas University graduate, initially taught art before transitioning to a school librarian, where she continued to inspire students until her retirement.
Students are encouraged to submit their original artwork in various forms, including 2-D, 3-D, and multi-media. Each entry is just $5.00, and art can be delivered to the SAAC office “as is,” as there are no framing or matting requirements for this competition. Additionally, the sale of student artwork will be encouraged during the exhibition, providing a platform for young artists to gain exposure and potentially sell their work.
The exhibit, sponsored by R. Eric Hatley, MD, will be on display from February 24 to April 1, 2023. Cash prizes will be awarded to outstanding entries, with artwork divided into four divisions for judging: K-2 Grade, 3-5 Grade, 6-9 Grade, and 10-12 Grade. The $100 Grand Prize will be awarded to the Best of Show, alongside additional cash awards available in each division: First Place ($50), Second Place ($25), and Third Place ($15).
Mark your calendars for the awards reception on Saturday, March 8 at 2:00 PM, held in the Merkle and Price Galleries at SAAC, where winners will be announced at 2:30 PM.
