One hundred and seventy four students from schools in Union County participated in the 2014 Student Art Show & Competition. Judge Sandy Bennett selected award recipients, and prizes were handed out at the reception on February 18.
Hannah Wright, an eighth grader at Barton Junior High School, received the Betty Norman Best of Show Award for “Dragon Dance” (mixed media).
In the Kindergarten-Fourth Grade Division, prizes were given to Spencer Langston/Kindergarten – “The Nutcracker” (crayon), 3rd Place; Baylor Blackburn/Fourth Grade – “Cool Glasses” (dyed glue print), 2nd Place; and Mary Bone/First Grade – “Girl with Guitar” (collage), 1st Place.
In Fifth-Eighth Grade, prizes were awarded to Isabella Long/Fifth Grade – “Sea Animals & Their Habitat” (oil), 3rd Place; Emily Wisinger/Sixth Grade – “Southern Belle” (mixed media), 2nd Place; and Mikayla Greer/Seventh Grade – “Say Cheese” (charcoal), 1st Place.
Title sponsors for the competition are Ann Pruet Calhoon and Paula Pruet James in memory of their mother Elizabeth Pruet. Awards sponsor is Rainier Office Machines & Equipment.
Ninth-Twelfth Grade award winners were Kacy Mays/Eleventh Grade – “Gabi” (oil pastel), 3rd Place; Rebekah Ball/Twelfth Grade – “Untitled” (linoleum block print), 2nd Place; and Jessica Honeycutt/Twelfth Grade – “Untitled” (pen and ink), 1st Place.
