Registration is open for Ballet Camp, sponsored by First Financial Bank, which will run from July 17-21. Ballet Camp will be taught by Stephanie Lowrey and Cami Lowrey and is open to all level dancers from grades K-12. A showcase production of “Fairytale Frolic” is slated for Friday, July 21 at 6:00 pm.
For students, grades 5-12, classical ballet class will run from 11-12:30, with lunch break until 1:15, at which time students will spend the remainder of the day working on choreography, set and costume design for their production. Grades K-4 will have their ballet class from 12:30-1:30 and will join the older students in the afternoon for work on the production.
Stephanie Lowrey explained , “This summer’s ballet camp students will be learning classical ballet while preparing to perform in a short ballet that I wrote about Disney princes. You know how they all look the same in every movie? Maybe it’s the same guy? We will explore that idea! The campers will also get to be involved in set construction and costume design. There’s a spot for students of all dance experience levels in our ballet production and we also welcome any students from other studios that would be up for a challenge or interested in a feature role in this ballet.”
Lowrey went on to say,”We will be taking ballet to another level, incorporating acting and the emotional aspects of dance. The students will develop a character and learn to ‘emote’ so they no longer see ballet as a series of steps, but as ‘expressing’. A series of movements can be beautiful, but they may not be engaging to the audience.”
When asked about why she loves teaching ballet camp, Lowrey said, “Ballet is an art form and that’s the joy in it. At one point in time, I wanted to be a set designer. This camp is kind of a way for me to get to have a whole lot of loves and interests rolled into one.”
