Want to be ready for Halloween? The South Arkansas Arts Center will host a one day specialty makeup class on Saturday, October 7, from 9:00-4:00pm. Learn some of the basics of ghoulish makeup with Gary Hall. Last year, Hall co-directed “Frankenstein” at SAAC and was responsible for the Creature’s makeup. Get a jump start on the spooky season with some eerie, mean makeup skills!

This is a beginner class for anyone interested in makeup for haunted houses or just plain scary fun. You will learn how to make prosthetic pieces as well as basic makeup skills to make your undead dreams come true. If you have taken the basic makeup class already, your makeup kit is sufficient. The $50 cost includes the basic prosthetic supplies, but each participant should bring a stage makeup kit. Stage make-up kits can be ordered for $25 at registration, if needed. Orders must be placed no later than Monday, October 2. Please advise if you are allergic to latex.

“The demand for specialty makeup has increased over the years because of shows like ‘The Walking Dead’ and ‘American Horror Story’. People want more than just make up,” Hall said. “They want the adventure of making themselves into the ghouls they prefer (costume play). Creative makeup skills are in high demand now, and the ability extends beyond Halloween to ‘Comicon’ and ‘Cosplay’. And, plus, it’s just plain fun!”

Hall has a Master’s in theatre and has created and designed makeup for over 50 shows. Whatever your level, he will work with you and help you get your skills where you want them to be. Come prepared for fun and “scares”. Class size is limited to 15.
