SAAC is thrilled to host the exhibition titled “Our World,” showcasing the recent works of Douglas Darracott from December 2, 2025, to January 3, 2026. The exhibition will feature a collection of paintings across four distinct series: the Zoo series, the American Dream series, the Sculpture series, and the People and Places series. A reception for the artist will be held on December 17, from 5:30 PM to 7 PM, where guests will have the opportunity to meet Darracott and learn more about his creative process.

Douglas Darracott was born in Little Rock and raised in El Dorado, Arkansas, making this exhibition a heartfelt homecoming. He is dedicating his exhibition to the memory of his fifth-grade teacher at Yocum Elementary, Mrs. Lannater Fox. He earned his Master of Fine Arts in drawing and painting from the University of North Texas and currently teaches high school art and art history in Plano, Texas. Darracott’s journeys throughout the United States and beyond inform his work, igniting a passion for exploring the ways we construct spaces for enjoyment and habitation—both for ourselves and for the wildlife that shares our environment.

“Our World” invites viewers to contemplate the constructed spaces of their lives through Darracott’s thought-provoking paintings. Each series investigates unique aspects of human and animal habitats, prompting a range of metaphorical interpretations. The “American Dream Series” showcases homes across the country adorned with the American flag, reflecting diverse styles and lifestyles while invoking a sense of unity. In contrast, the “Zoo series” examines zoos as microcosms and spaces designed primarily for human enjoyment, ultimately questioning our role as guardians of the natural world.

“I’ve organized my work into series, each involving the investigation of spaces we create for both human and animal habitation,” Darracott states. “I hope that viewers will engage with these built environments in new ways after experiencing this exhibition.”

Don’t miss this extraordinary opportunity to witness Douglas Darracott’s compelling interpretations of our world. Join us for the opening reception on December 17, and experience the art that reflects our shared spaces and histories.
