SAAC is currently accepting applications for director for the spring 2024 production of “Harvey”. Sponsored by Murphy-Pitard Jewelers and All About Flowers, the show will run March 1-9.

Written by Mary Chase, “Harvey” won the Pulitzer Prize in 1945 and was adapted into a film starring Jimmy Stewart in 1950. Over the years, this beloved comedy of errors has become one of the most successful community theatre productions of all time. The story of Elwood P. Dowd and his invisible companion Harvey, who is a six-foot-tall rabbit, has entertained and enthralled audiences for decades, including a 1967 production at SAAC. The show is filled with richly comic characters like Elwood’s social-climbing sister Veta, who decides to have him committed to a sanatorium; and young Dr. Sanderson, who commits Veta herself by mistake.

Interested individuals should supply a letter of intent, resume, and a short production proposal. Qualified applicants need a working knowledge of community theatre and have experience working with all ranges of talent, including beginners. Application deadline is November 14, 2023. All applications should be sent to SAAC, 110 East 5th Street, El Dorado, AR 71730, ATTN: Executive Director or emailed to Laura Allen at laura@saac-arts.org.
