“As one ages in this world, time becomes more and more precious. . .more and more evident and begins to pass, as it is said, in the blink of an eye. This is our lighthearted tribute to time. . .thankful for our past and hopeful for our future. . .that we are able to create and carry forth for a long, long time to come.” – Melinda and Rhonda
About the Artists
Rhonda Hicks is the owner of Backwoods Art and Frame in El Dorado and has been a member of the SAAC for more than 30 years. A nationally recognized artist, she has received a number of awards. Hicks said, “Working on ‘It’s About Time’ with Melinda has been a great, fun experience. This work reflects my love for assemblage pieces.”
El Dorado lifelong resident Melinda Dodson said, “I enjoy assemblage and mixed media …love working with found objects and recycled materials in both my art and architectural design. My very best learning experiences in the art world have come from hanging out with and learning from the many incredible artists of El Dorado, Arkansas and the South Arkansas Art Center!!”
“After high school graduation, I attended Centenary College in Shreveport, Louisiana for two years and learned that I was definitely not cut out for a secretarial science major. In 1994, I returned to school at South Arkansas Community College for two years in preparation for attending Louisiana Tech to study Art and Architecture. I graduated from Louisiana Tech University, Ruston, Louisiana in 2001 with BA in Interior Design and a minor in Architecture. Prior to attending Louisiana Tech, I worked in the interior design and décor business for a number of years. I have worked in the residential construction and remodeling business for the past 15 years specializing in architectural design, project management and residential remodeling,” said Dodson, who is currently serving on the Visual Arts committee.
