Preparations are under way for summer 2022’s biggest party: “Mamma Mia!” on stage at the South Arkansas Arts Center. SAAC is currently accepting applications for both a director and a music director for the project. Auditions will be held in May, with performances July 14-24, 2022.
This beloved show uses the framework of ABBA’s timeless songs to tell the hilarious story of a young woman’s search for her birth father on the eve of her wedding. Full of laughter, friendship, and unforgettable musical numbers, “Mamma Mia!” is equal parts heart and humor, with a soundtrack you won’t be able to resist.
Interested individuals should supply a letter of intent, resume, and a short production proposal for each project application. Qualified applicants need experience in their area interest and a working knowledge of community theatre. They should have experience working with all ranges of talent, including beginners. SAAC’s salary schedule is competitive and will be set according to experience. Lodging will be provided if necessary, and there are opportunities for visiting artist to teach workshops and classes.
In addition, SAAC is also accepting early applications for the summer 2023 musical, Disney’s “Newsies”. Slated for performance July 13-23, 2023, the production is seeking a director, music director, and choreographer. Based on the 1992 motion picture, “Newsies” was inspired by the true story of the newsboys’ strike in turn-of-the-century New York City. The production features the now classic songs “Carrying the Banner,” “Seize the Day,” and “Santa Fe,” and is packed with non-stop thrills and a timeless message.
