This fall, from September 2-October 31, SAAC hosts an exhibition of Hunter’s works, thanks to the generosity of the family of the late Theodosia Nolan, who was a great friend and collector of Hunter’s. Curated by Tom Whitehead, an expert on Hunter and the author of several books on her life and work, the exhibit will feature paintings from the Nolan family’s private collections in El Dorado and at Cherokee, the Nolans’ plantation home in Natchitoches. Cherokee, in fact, was the subject of one of Hunter’s paintings, (which appears on the cover of the current issue of the El Dorado Insider’s Guide.) “Theodosia’s husband, William Nolan, had a special way with Clementine, and he asked her to paint a picture of Theodosia’s beloved Cherokee. They were close friends, but only William could have gotten Clementine to paint Cherokee,” said Whitehead. • contibuted by Laura Allen
