Through the time-honored tradition of letter writing, audiences meet Andrew Makepeace Ladd III and Melissa Gardner and follow their lifelong love affair. Spanning the years 1937-1984, this story will resonate with those who remember the Great Depression, WWII, the Cold War Years and the crazy days of the ’60’s and ’70’s.
Born to wealth and position, they are childhood friends whose correspondence begins with birthday party thank-you notes and summer camp postcards. Romantically attached, they continue to exchange letters through the boarding school and college years, while Andy is off at war, through disagreements and reconciliations, as their lives continue on very different paths. Andy’s last letter makes it eloquently clear how much they really meant, and gave to, each other over the years — physically apart, perhaps, but spiritually as close as only true lovers can be.
