Summer vacation is looming in the near distance and SAAC is ready to help plan some fun for your kiddos!  Get them off the couch and off their screens and into the South Arkansas Arts Center for the best experience of their summer.  Having a blast while learning something new is always a good time! 
The summer schedule this year offers some new and old subjects to engage your kids…something for everyone.  From art, theater and dance to bug hotel building, there is definitely something to spark their interest!  The teachers are all enthusiastic about what they have planned and are ready to get going!

Below is the list of what’s included in this year’s camp lineup.

May 31-June 3 • “Art Meets Science” Young scientists entering grades 2-4 can explore the ways that art and science intersect in a hands-on environment with instructor Mike Means.  Limit 10. $90.
Grades 2-4 9:00am – 12:00pm 

May 31-June 3 • “Building a Bug Hotel”  Students entering grades 5-9 will work with instructor Mike Means to design and build a “Bug Hotel” habitat on the SAAC grounds, learning about these essential insects and their characteristics along the way.  Limit 8. $90.
Grades 5-9 1:00 – 4:00pm

May 31-June 3 • “Theatre Basics Camp” Take to the stage this summer with this camp for young actors entering grades 1-6. Campers will explore scene work, stage movement, voice technique, and stage games with youth instructors Hannah Elizabeth and Maddy Couture, along with adult helpers Ms. Cassie and Ms. Tracye.  Limit 20. $90.
Grades 1-6 1:00 – 4:00pm 

June 6-10 • “Grease Musical Theatre Dance Camp” Students entering grades 7 and up will learn musical theatre choreography at this performance-based camp focused on the classic musical, “Grease”. Students will dance to a selection of beloved songs and learn the fundamentals of choreography, blocking, and stage presence with instructors Lynn Gunter and Bekah Gunter. Notes: Rehearsal attire includes ballet or jazz shoes, leggings or tights, and a fitted shirt or leotard. Please bring a sack lunch daily. A parent performance will be held Friday evening at 6 p.m.  Limit 12/24. $110/140.
Grades 7-12 Beginner/Intermediate 9:00am – 12:00pm & Advanced Dancers 9:00am – 3:00pm  / Performance Friday 6pm

June 13-17 • “Wizard of Oz Ballet” Jump into the theatrical side of ballet! SAAC Ballet Camps offer the unique opportunity to take not only classical ballet classes to develop technique, but also perform in an original mini-ballet, to help dancers cultivate expression and artistry. Dancers will be involved in all aspects of the production including costume design, set construction, and developing choreography. Junior Camp is appropriate for dancers entering grades 1-5.  Instructors Cami and Stephanie Lowrey, a mother and daughter duo, are excited for the challenge of turning this famous story into a ballet in just one week, however they will need help from the dancers! This ballet will feature many solos and large group numbers. Dancers of all experience levels are needed and encouraged; former ballet experience is not required, as choreography can be created and adjusted to fit all levels of experience so that dancers feel comfortable and look good on stage. The instructors are hoping to see many returning and new faces at ballet camp this year. Former SAAC dancers and dancers from all studios are welcome at Ballet Camp for the summer show.  Limit 24. Grades 1-5 $110. Grades 6+up $140.

June 20-24 • “Advanced Art Camp” Students entering grades 3-9, with at least two years’ of art experience, will have the opportunity to take a deep dive into visual art with instructors Katie Harwell and Maria Villegas.This is a class for students looking to advance already acquired techniques, as well as those who want to develop new ways of expressing themselves through art. Please dress comfortably and be prepared to get a little messy!  Limit 16. $110.
Grades 3-9 9:00am – 12:00pm

June 27-30 • “Mini Art and Theatre Camp” Campers age 4-6 will explore visual drawing, painting, music, movement, and dance with a shorter session designed to keep their interest. Two small groups will rotate through activities exploring visual art and theatre with teachers Michaela Gross and Ms. Cassie. Please dress comfortably and be prepared to get a little messy!  Limit 16. $90.

August 1-5 • “Art Camp” Students entering grades 1-3 in the morning and grades 4-9 in the afternoon will rotate through classes, learning visual art basics and sharpening their skills with Mike Means and Michaela Gross. Please dress comfortably and be prepared to get a little messy!  Limit 24. $100.

August 8-12 • “Movie Making” Campers entering grades 5-9 will have the opportunity to write, direct, star in, and produce their own short films, commercials, and documentary shorts. Students will work collaboratively and individually to execute their ideas and support their fellow artists with teacher Mike Means.  Limit 12. $110.
Grades 2-6 9:00am – 1:00pm
