SAAC welcomes El Dorado artist Amy Machen to the Lobby Gallery, with her show entitled “The Mind of Machen.” This show will hang through the end of September with an artist’s reception on September 20, from 5:00-7:00pm.

Machen, who works as the adult minister at First United Methodist Church and as mom to three kids and wife to Phillip, had not painted in 25 years, she said in an interview. “My kids wanted portraits of their dogs for Christmas gifts last year and I thought ‘I can do that it.'” Now, Machen creates custom pieces for friends and clients, as well as painting when inspiration strikes.

“I’ve had a fun relationship with SAAC when my daughter got involved with the drama program. I did the Membership Show, a 5×5 painting for the Art Dash in May, and an umbrella for the ‘Singin’ in the Rain’ umbrella auction.”

Machen’s show is bright, colorful and full of joy. She uses acrylics on canvas for most of her offerings, but also paints on textiles, showcasing a few pieces in her show as well. She loves abstracts but also paints flowers, angels and ocean scenes.
