Tides & Currents: Contemporary Art Along the Gulf Coast artist reception will be Saturday, June 28, at 6pm. Exhibit curator Bill Myers said, “I chose these fifteen artists for the vairety of materials and approaches. Each has a distinctive vision that is reflected in their work. . .some more experimental in their work, some more traditional. . .and all reflect the world we inhabit.”
Myers has a long history with SAAC, beginning with meeting Richard Wharton at the home of a mutual friend on the Mississippi coast. His solo exhibit in the Merkle and Price Galleries was in 2009, when he also taught a drawing workshop. “During the week of the workshop, I continued to fall in love with the SAAC staff and found my class undergoing a change from strangers to friends – the magic of El Dorado!” he said.
Some years later, Myers was approached about having another show. Feeling that he could not fill the space with new work, he invited friends from the Mississippi coast to do a group show. Myers said, “This current show is an outgrowth of that past group show, adding five artists to the original ten. Thank you for including us in this 50th Anniversary year at SAAC.”
