Come see the beautiful fall-themed mural painted by Maria and Jorge Villegas’ K-12 Visual Arts students, which is part of the Student Art Showcase hanging in the Lobby Gallery, now through December 19, 2017.

The featured piece of art is a collaborative mural entitled “Sweet Fall Games.” Studentsof Maria and Jorge Villegas began the fall mural as a community project at El Dorado Service League’s Truckapalooza held in October. Friends from ages 2 to 92 added their artistic touches, and the student art classes at SAAC did the finish work. Also included in this show are artworks done by students in visual and graphic art classes.

“We started this mural with a big bunch of curve strokes and let the kids determine where they wanted to go with it. It turned into this beautiful tree, with some guidance from us. It is so full of humor and fun,” Maria said.

“The mural has really become a touchstone for all our children’s programming,” said Laura Allen, SAAC Executive Director. “I didn’t anticipate that the small art project we started back in August at Truckapalooza would grow and thrive in such a way, but it really speaks directly to our mission of encouraging collaborative creativity and lifelong learning.”

Also on exhibit in the Price and Merkle Galleries is the Membership Art Show, which will hang through December 15, 2017 as well.

Mrs. Maria and Mr. Jorge will continue teaching their children’s art classes at SAAC this spring. Registration for the spring semester of Arts Academy classes is open now. For more information about classes, please call the SAAC office at 870-862-5474.
