The box office is open for tickets for “Peter and the Starcatcher”, SAAC’s fall opener for the 2018 theater season. This comic high-seas romp will be brought to life by an eclectic cast of 28 performers representing Union, Columbia, and Ouachita Counties. The upcoming production will run November 1-6 with performances at 7:30pm, with the exception of the 2:30 Sunday matinee.
“Peter and the Starcatcher” is a tale about how Peter Pan actually became Peter Pan. This swashbuckling show is filled with pirates and mermaids and treasure chests full of ‘starstuff’. It’s a fast paced and hilarious take on the life of Peter and the Lost Boys and their pirate nemesis, Black Stache, as they protect precious cargo on the Neverland ship.
“The show’s prime directive could perhaps best be summed up as ‘Use your imagination!’ In the spirit of every kid who ever pretended a broomstick and trash can lid were a sword and shield, Peter calls upon the creativity of the actors and audience to bring the story to life with the power of imagination over high tech special effects. The idea is to stage it using nothing more than what the average person could dig up in their shed, attic, and closet. We’re trying to keep it as close to that standard as we can,” said Bill Meyer who, along with Mike Means, is co-directing the production. Means added, “I’ve enjoyed watching the cast develop into the characters, and you can tell they are having a good time being a part of the made up world.”
