Let SAAC be your guide this summer on an “ARTventure”, guaranteed to inspire, educate, and entertain. Sponsored by First Financial Bank, SAAC will offer day camps in art, dance, drama, and film. Registration is currently underway in the SAAC office.
First on the schedule will be Ballet Camp, JR, which will be held from June 3-7 for K-3. The camp, led by Stephanie Lowrey, will meet from 1-5pm Monday- Friday with a performance at 5:30pm on Friday. This camp is designed specifically for younger dancers, with no previous ballet experience necessary.
Art Camp, “It’s Art Humongous”, for grades 1-8, will run June 10-14, either from 8am-noon or from 1-5pm, your choice. Taught by Mike Means and Maria and Jorge Villegas, the students will rotate classes and be taught by all three instructors as they explore paths to self-expression through art.
Broadway Camp will run from June 17-22 for grades 7-12, from 8am-noon on Monday-Friday with a performance at 2:00pm on Saturday. Headed up by Hannah Davis, campers will embark on an adventure into musical theater and the best of Broadway.
SAAC will be a host location for a University of Arkansas Design Camp, June 17-21, brought to El Dorado by the Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design. This camp will be for students grades 9-12 and will run from 9am-4pm.
Movie Camp will be offered by Mike Means for two different age groups at two different times. Movie Camp Jr for grades 2-6, will run June 17-21 from 8am-noon and they will concentrate on making original shorts. Movie Camp for grades 7-12 will run the next week, June 24-18 from 8am-noon. Campers will go behind the scenes of film-making and learn how it all comes together.
Next up on the summer roster will be Theatre Camp, directed by Kristen Blossom, visiting director for the summer musical, and Hannah Davis, which will run July 29-August 2. Grades 2-5 will meet in the morning, 8am-noon, and grades 6-9 will have their fun from 1-5pm. The campers will have unforgettable experiences singing, dancing, acting and more, with a performance at 5:30pm on Friday.
Ballet Camp for grades 4-6 and 7-12 will be held August 5-10 with a performance at 2pm on Saturday, August 10. This camp, taught by Stephanie and Cami Lowrey and Elisabeth Wood, will be held from 1-5pm for grades 4-6 and from 3-7pm for grades 7-12. Instructor and SAAC dancer Cami Lowrey created this year’s ballet, “The Adventures of Peter Pan”. The campers will also be involved in set construction, costume design and choreography development.
All camp fees are $110 for SAAC members and the out of town guests of current members. New and renewing students will require an additional $25 student membership, which is good for discounts on classes and programming for one full year at SAAC. Fees are non-refundable. Class sizes are limited and will be filled basis.
