Auditions for the upcoming spring musical production of “You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown” will be held January 14-15, 2019. Registration begins at 6:00 pm, with auditions at 6:30 pm both nights. Production is slated for March 1-3, 7-10, 2019.

Charles Schulz’s beloved comic comes to life in Clark Gesner’s classic musical. The whole gang is here: bossy Lucy is hopelessly in love with piano prodigy Schroeder who doesn’t give her the time of day, perfectionist Sally is still mocking blanket-toting Linus, Snoopy is in the doghouse, and “blockhead,” himself, Charlie Brown, is in rare form.

Justin Howard, director for the musical, said, “I enjoy doing shows for families because it’s loads of fun to portray these types of characters, and these iconic characters are some of the best.”

Everyone auditioning will be asked to sing a song from the show and read from the script. Vocal Director Charlsie Falcon has selected a short cut from “Suppertime” for men and “Little Known Facts” for the women. Sheet music and accompaniment will be provided. Cold readings, which will consist of monologues and small scenes from the show’s vignettes, will be available at auditions. There is no need to memorize.

Six main characters and a small ensemble are needed for this show. Anyone 16 or older is welcome to audition. All physical types, ethnicities, and genders will be considered for all roles. All roles will require movement abilities, but not necessarily dance talents.  This is a fun show with strong, well-established characters. Participants are invited to establish a character and sell it accordingly.

Main characters in the musical include Charlie Brown, the main Peanuts protagonist who is gentle and insecure, yet so very lovable. His music requires a baritone voice. Sally Brown, Charlie’s little sister, is too rambunctious and undependable and usually needs protecting and guidance. Her music requires a belting soprano voice. Lucy Van Pelt, who is in love with Schroeder, is Charlie’s mean and sarcastic side-kick who has an attitude problem. Her character needs to have a belting mezzo-soprano voice.

Linus Van Pelt, (baritone voice), is Charlie’s best human friend who always means well and tries to smooth over every storm that arises among the gang. Schroeder, (tenor voice), is distinguished by his precocious skill at the piano as well as by his love of Beethoven. Snoopy, (tenor), probably the most beloved Peanuts character, is Charlie’s best friend and constant canine companion. There is also an ensemble needed for this production, not required for the script, but to be added support characters to round out full cast songs as well as helping move set pieces and filling out scenes.
