Pastel and Acrylic Paintings by El Dorado Artist Julia Slaughter

Harmony and a touch of whimsy is the way local artist Julia Hardy Slaughter describes her paintings. She draws her inspiration from everywhere-from the angular and ornate roof of an old church to the curves of the bodies fitting together in a new litter of puppies. The results-paintings with balance and bright, beautiful color.

“My thrill and reward in art is when the viewer is pulled back for another look. They may not know why, but they feel that pull. I am a middle child of six children and the mother of five. Art has always restored at least my sense of sanity in the crazy world I live in, but the primary reasons I do art is because it is a fun and constant learning process that makes me happy,” said Julia.
