The South Arkansas Arts Center will host a book signing for Washington Middle School’s grades five and six Studio Art 2012/2013 class project entitled “Why El Dorado” on Thursday, November 5 from 5:30-7:00pm with the exhibit showing through December 6. The project was funded by the Arkansas Arts Council Arts in Education, the El Dorado Education Foundation, and SAAC.

The book “Why El Dorado” was a result of a multidisciplinary project studying language and fine arts. Under the instruction of Katie Harwell, Artist in Education Maria Villegas, Gifted and Talented Coordinator Beth Sullivan, and Suzette Callaway, the classes researched what makes El Dorado special. Each student involved in the project explored their favorite subject by writing and creating illustrations in pen and ink, watercolor, tempera batik, or collage.

The students’ artwork and writing were then compiled into a beautiful, laminated soft bound book that will be on sale for $12 during the book signing. The proceeds from the sale of the books will benefit arts projects at Washington Middle School.
