Saturday, May 10, 5:30-7:30pm at the South Arkansas Arboretum
“After having worked for several years to breathe new life into the arboretum, we want everyone to know what a treasure it has become. The best way to do that is to invite people to a party!” said arboretum board member Barbie Luther. The free event includes live jazz, drinks, hors d’oeuvres, and twenty Adirondack chairs which have been transformed into usable art by local artists.
The chair auction will begin at 6:30. Funds from the auction will be used to hire a landscape architect for the arboretum and start a fund at SAAC for outdoor art projects. Some of the members of the arboretum board borrowed the idea for the chair transformations from a magazine. They then approached SAAC Executive Director Jack Wilson with the idea, and he enthusiastically agreed to participate in the project as part of SAAC’s 50th Anniversary celebration.
Local artists who transformed Adirondack chairs into art are: Backyard Artists Group, Sandy Bennett, EHS Junior Service League, Kelly Campbell, Kelly Chitwood, LaToya Crayton, McAdams Drafting/Mike Means, The Rowdy Girls, Rhonda Lusk, Joanne Marino, Mike Means, Sarah Merkle, Kevin Pendleton, Spencer Purinton, Darrin Riley, Julia Slaughter, Savannah Spears, Susan Spooner, Sharon Traylor, and Virginia Williamson.
