Exciting Summer Theatre Opportunities for all ages!
SAAC is thrilled to present a variety of engaging summer theatre opportunities designed to inspire creativity and nurture talent for all ages. This summer lineup includes – “Legally Blonde the Musical” a community theatre production and SAAC’s summer musical and “Annie, JR” for both the 24-Hour Musical Camp for Drama Club students grades 8up and the one week Youth Theatre Camp with sessions for our “Littles” pre-k to grade 2 and “Juniors” grade 3-7. Finally, late summer brings a production of “Annie, Kids” for a special one week Penguin Project Camp for grades 3-12.

Community theatre auditions for “Legally Blonde” will take place on May 20 & 22 starting at 6pm. Directed by visiting UAPB theatre instructor Taijee, “Legally Blonde” offers roles for 12 characters along with a large and lively ensemble. Returning to SAAC are Hannah McGaugh of Lucy’s Ladies Dance Studio as choreographer and Tiffanie Duke at Assistant Director.
“Legally Blonde is joyful, funny, and endlessly empowering,” said Taijee. “My goal is to honor the humor, sparkle, and heart audiences love while exploring how this story can reflect the world we live in today. This production celebrates authenticity, individuality, and the courage to fully step into who you are.” Auditions are open to aged 16 and older. Dancers are specifically encouraged to showcase their talents. Video auditions are welcome. Sponsored by Murphy USA, “Legally Blonde” takes the stage July 9-12, 16-19.
Youth Theatre Camp students ages 4 through 7th grade will journey “The World of Annie” on June 1-5, culminating in a bright and shining performance on Friday at 5pm and 6 pm. Under the leadership of Hannah Hickman and Cassie Hickman, participants will engage in dancing, acting, and singing while learning that the sun will always come out tomorrow. “This is an excellent opportunity for young participants to explore theatre without a long-term commitment,” said Hickman. Registration is open now, and tuition is $120.

Disney’s “Annie, Kids” is this year’s Penguin Project production. Penguin Project is a 5-day summer camp focused on inclusive theatre, pairing artists with differing needs with peer mentors under the guidance of director Lynn Gunter and music director Cassie Hickman. The open call for participants to register is Tuesday, May 19 at 3:45pm. There is no fee to participate. Penguin Camp will be held July 20-24, culminating in a public performance on Friday at 6:30pm. “Each camper will earn 22-40 community service hours, but the real rewards go beyond that,” said Gunter. “Mentors will have the opportunity to build self-confidence in performers, especially those with special needs, helping them thrive on stage and form lasting friendships.”
Based on the popular comic strip and adapted from the Tony Award-winning Best Musical, Annie KIDS features everyone’s favorite little redhead in her very first adventure. With equal measures of pluck and positivity, little orphan Annie charms everyone’s hearts despite a next-to-nothing start in 1930s New York City. Annie is determined to find the parents who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of an orphanage run by the cruel Miss Hannigan. Annie eventually foils Miss Hannigan’s evil machinations, finding a new home and family in billionaire, Oliver Warbucks, his personal secretary, Grace Farrell, and a lovable mutt named Sandy.
