Join us in the holiday fun as Thomas Brewster becomes Crumpet the Elf for a one night only performance of David Sedaris’ “The Santaland Diaries” on December 15, 2018. “The Santaland Diaries” is a hilariously sarcastic, deliciously cynical way for adults to celebrate the holidays. SAAC will also host a dessert and drinks buffet before the show to ensure the evening’s holiday spirit, beginning at 7:00pm.
Brewster is a familiar face on the SAAC stage and has been seen in many holiday and summer productions over the years including “A Christmas Story,” “A 1940’s Radio Christmas Carol,” “Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella,” and “Willy Wonka” as well as, more recently, in “Sunset Boulevard” and “Singing in the Rain”.
Come peek into this wicked wonderland and exposé of all things elfin. Out of work and middle-aged, a writer in need of holiday cash decides to employ his gift for insightful observation in the trade of elfdom at Macy’s Department Store. Besieged by bratty kids with overzealous parents and donning a humiliating costume, he finds that his cynical self and his elfin alter ego, “Crumpet,” are not exactly compatible. His remedy for the saccharine overdose he endures in his never-endingly exuberant job is to tell all – giving us a backstage pass to the secret lives of Santas and elves.
Though definitely not your traditional stocking stuffer, this caustic Christmas carol is a laughter-spiked antidote to the holiday blues. Adapted from David Sedaris’ best-selling book “Holidays on Ice”, this holiday tale is a modern classic, made famous when it aired on National Public Radio.
SAAC will host a festive pre-party before the production. The galleries’ tables will be dressed for the holidays as local SAAC supporters decorate them for the season. Desserts and drinks, as well as a signature drink, the “Crumpetini”, will be served while party- goers mingle, munch on sweet confections and enjoy live holiday music provided by SAAC’s own talented thespians.
“Antoon’s Jewelers and Possibilities Salon are proud to sponsor ‘The SantaLand Diaries’”, said Joey Antoon. “When Marsha and I direct stage plays, Thomas Brewster is our go to actor when we want quality comedy. He is a bright star every time we have seen him on stage, and we know he will deliver a gift wrapped 5-star performance. Combine the talents of David Sedaris and Thomas Brewster and all you can get is a solid WOW! We look forward to you joining us for an adult evening of twisted Christmas humor in the SAAC gallery.”
Tickets for the party and “The SantaLand Diaries” are $20. For more information, please call the SAAC box office 870-862-5474.
