SAAC is holding open casting call for participants in its fall production of The Penguin Project’s “Seussical, KIDS”.
The Penguin Project is a unique opportunity for children with special needs to perform in a live stage production in front of an audience. Through targeted outreach, special needs children are recruited as artists and cast in the production, from starring roles to ensemble. Each special-needs artist is paired with a mentor of similar age, who guides them through the production from start to finish, helping them learn lines, dances, songs, and blocking. The children operate as a pair throughout the entire process and appear on stage together, resulting in a full theatrical performance, with costumes, sets, and music.
Mentors, age 12-18, will have their first meeting and casting call on Thursday, August 15, 3:45-5:30pm, as well as a workshop and extra casting call on Saturday, August 17, from 1:00-3:00pm.
Artists, age 8-18, will have their casting call on Tuesday, August 20, from 3:45-5:30pm.
Rehearsals will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:45-5:30pm. Following rehearsal on Thursday, August 22 at 5:30pm, the director will hold an all parent meeting to provide families with important information. The production is scheduled for October 4 at 7:00pm and October 5 at 2:00pm.
